11:31 pm - rain is gorgeous

Hey everyone! How thrilled are you to have this gorgeous rain?! I've never had a rain day off from school before, this is just crazy in the best way possible.

We will reschedule our trip to Shriner's Hospital, since that was going to happen Tuesday afternoon. Later on this week, we will inform you of upcoming events since we will have no meeting Tuesday, obviously.

A quick reminder: if you haven't brought in your $20 yet for your sweatshirt, be sure to do so this week, so you can finally pick it up.

Have a splendid day off from school!

9:03 pm - 2 Very Important Messages

Hey everyone! I come bearing two important pieces of information:

1. There will be no CSL meeting this upcoming Tuesday.
Tuesday is Grandparents' Day, and although I know you all are completely enthralled by our meetings, I don't think your grandparents would get as excited as you all do.

2. We are going to Shriner's Hospital on Tuesday, November 30.
We will leave school at 3 PM and come back at about 5 PM, definitely in time for the bus. I love visiting Shriner's Hospital, the kids are so sweet and you just want to hug them for hours. We will be doing holiday arts and crafts with them, it'll really brighten up their day. They spend all day in a hospital bed, or with tubes attached to them, and other such non-fun things. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME, I'm really hoping 10 (yes, ten) people can come, but the more the merrier! Please email me or any of the other council members, or find us at school, or call us, or send us a postcard, telling us if you can come. So if you have even the vaugest interest in coming, please let me know as soon as possible!!

Thanks everyone, have a lovely weekend!

11:11 am - Sweatshirts

Warning: the sweatshirts we are ordering run rather large...we are ordering from "homeboy" company and lets all remember that their slogan is "jobs not jail" so if you want to get a general idea of the sizes, just ask anyone on the tennis team...we ordered from the homeboy ppl too so you can get a general idea of what size you want. just remember, the run really, really big and don't shrink very much even if you try really hard.
let us know by this friday, 11.12.04.

-There is a bake sale for the victims of the tragedies in Haiti on October 7th, so bring $ for that
-Denim Day is on October 8th so bring $5 and support the Susan G Coleman breast cancer foundation
-October 9th, in honor of John Lennon's birthday, it is National Peace and Love Day, so be especially peaceful and loving that day
-We are going to Hopenet on October 23rd and it's a really nice way to spend your Saturday morning, plus it's a three-day weekend so homework is no excuse
-Bring in candy for various candy drives at school, and bring in costumes for the costume drive (more information in the last post and on the bright orange flyers around school)
-If you are planning on doing the Pediatric Aids fundraiser that I mentioned at the meeting, please let me know so I can send in the forms. And also let Caryn know, because she volunteered to have people park at her house (which is right near the aiport hangar) and then walk together to the event. It's October 30th and really fun
-We are working on getting the garden project set up again, so get excited for that
-October 29th there is a Halloween party at the Boy's & Girl's Club, Leslie mentioned it at the past few CSL meetings, and it sounds fab
-BRING SWEATSHIRT DESIGNS FOR NEXT WEEK'S MEETING! otherwise, it will never get done and we'll be left sweatshirtless which would be quite a tragedy
-on November 6th there will be a garage sale raising money for a preschool that needs money for books, teachers, supplies, etc. and if you have any furniture, appliances, clothing, anything really that you think is worth selling, bring it to Ms Brown's room or leave it outside the library (depending on its size) and help those poor kids out
-The Food of the Month is rice and pasta so be sure to bring some in
-If you have some extra time at free or break, stop by Ms Brown's room and help color in posters for the Aids Walk

Other than that have a great rest of the week and think community service thoughts!

11:06 am - C is for community service, that's good enough for me. . .

Hello all!
Got lots of news for you. . .
-October 29th there is a Halloween Party at the Boys & Girls Club, which is on Cahuenga near Santa Monica. Leslie talked about it at the meeting, and it sounds fab.
-Today there is Parent's Night of Classes and the library crew need help guarding the books and the money boxes. The shifts are 6-7, 7-8, & 8-9 so if you'll be around school then be sure to go by and help out
-There is a Tree Planting on October 2nd, so you guys should get excited for that. . .
-We are going to have a school-wide costume drive, so if you or your siblings have any old costumes you feel like donating, stop by Ms Brown's office or give them to any of the councilmembers. Also, if you feel like being creative, you could help with flyer-making and such. The costumes go to Alexandria House, and we need to have all of them by October 10th
-Also, we're planning on having sweatshirts this year, so have a design and ideas ready by next Tuesday
-If you are over 16 (or close to it) and were interested in the Pediatric AIDS fundraiser on October 30th I talked about, comment to this post (click anonymous if you don't have a livejournal account) and let me know, and I'll forward you the forms and all that jazz.
-October 22nd we are going to Hopenet (you can go any Saturday you like, but this is a particualrly CSL-oritented trip), I'm pretty sure Ms Brown will arrange a ride from school, and since its a three-day weekend homework is no excuse so come and it'll be a ball
-If you're a group leader then be sure to have something to present for our next meeting which is Tuesday, October 4th in Caswell Hall (keep it tidy!)

That's all, have a good Wednesday and wear yellow on Friday!

9:20 am - Costumes and Boys and Girls Club Halloween Party

Lovely CSL Members,
Don't forget, if you have them, to bring in your gently used halloween costumes for underprivaleged children in shelters so they can have halloween costumes. There will be a halloween party at the Boys and Girls club of Hollywood on Friday, October 29th. If you have any questions about the party or you have any kinds of decorations to donate, talk to Leslie Hinshaw (junior) or Ms. Brown. IF YOU ARE A GROUP LEADER: PLEASE HAVE SOMETHING TO PRESENT ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH AT THE MEETING in caswell at lunch.

1:23 pm - Community Service will rock your socks

Happy Jewish New Year and Weekend!
A few CSL updates for you:
-Correction for my last e-mail/posting session: We are not reading to kids from Third Street School, but instead from Wilshire School. Sorry about the mistake, but these kids are equally cute.
-Next Tuesday there is a CSL meeting (as usual), but this time it is in Caswell Hall. This is a lovely thing for Mr. Bruneau to let us do, so let's keep it tidy when we use it in all it's comfy chair splendor.
-To Debbie K, Emily L, Jane P, Sandra F, Georgia M, and Olivia C: please have some information to present next meeting. It does not need to be much, just have some ideas to show and perhaps some information.
-Don't forget to go the tutoring orientation on September 21st on the east side of the library.
-Also, as Liz said in class meeting, the Aids Walk is coming up. It's October 17th (I know that seems far away, but time flies when you are having homework-filled fun), and if you want any information go to www.aidwalk.net or call (213) 201-9255, or just talk to Liz G.

That's all, see you lot on Tuesday and have a happy weekend!
